Rachel Gordon is stranded in South Carolina, pregnant, a recent widow when her husband fell overboard on the voyage to America. Nathan Stuart, a physician who came home from serving in the American army during the War of 1812, disenchanted with his life and the Lord, rescues Rachel and saves her life. Feeling responsible for her, Nathan tries to discourage her from living at a rundown farm her husband bought to start a new future in America. He wants her to return to England.Rachel refuses to go back to England where her father disowned her for marrying against his wishes. The farm is all she has, and she is determined to make it on her own. But Nathan has other ideas and becomes her farmhand to discourage her from staying in America. Instead he ends up protecting her and being challenged by her. Can two wounded people heal each other?

The cover might catch my eye first, but it's the synopsis that "sells" me on a book!

Igm52, I think Summerside did a great job on the cover. Thanks for stopping by.
I adore books by Margaret Daley!
I depend a lot on blogs like this one
that reviews books and then I purchase them. Also, after seeing a
book cover and then reading the back and inside story blurbs, help me decide on a book...
Many thanks, Cindi

The cover and the title make me want to read a book. I know I shouldn't judge by this.
Thanks for the chance to win this. This looks amazing.

I usually buy books from my favorite authors first. The blurb on the back will also help me to decide. The cover may catch my attention but it doesn't play a part in what I buy.

I hate to seem shallow, but the cover is usually what catches my eye first...then I read the back blurb!
jnkbull at gmail dot com
I don't think that's shallow at all! We're visual creatures, after all. Cover is really important for exactly that reason--just to get someone to pick up the book and consider it.
I'm swayed by word-of-mouth, by back cover copy, and by reviews. I typically won't trust a single review--if I read a positive review and like the story description, I'll usually look for several other reviews to back up the first. Still, reader word-of-mouth has sold me on more books than anything else.
cover or author would be my top sellers
I'd love to win Margaret's book thanks

If I am just browsing a book shelf the cover is what catches my eye first. I would then read the blurb on the back. If it peaks my interest the book is purchased. BUT, I also try to purchase anything by my favorite authors and it doesn't matter what the cover looks like or the blurb on the back. Margaret is one of my favorites, so if I can't win a copy of From This Day Forward I will definitely be keeping an eye out on our local book shelves.
I would absolutely love to win Margaret's book. Thank you for the chance!

The author's name would catch my attention followed by the cover and then of course the " blurb". These blogs are also very helpful!
I would love to win your book

The cover catches my attention first, then I look at the title, and after that I read the back blurb.
Thank you for the giveaway.

My opinion of the author is first, I guess. Then I like to read reviews/interviews like this. I have read some of Margaret's books and loved them so am anxious to read this one. Thanks for entering me.

i purchase/read books from recommendations; favourite authors; and cover art. thanks for the chance to read this beautiful story.

There are some authors who are favorites so I want to read anything they write. For unknown authors, the front cover attracts me first, then I'll read the back blurb to see if it is something I'd like. If the cover isn't interesting, it won't grab my interest enough to even pick it up. The cover of "From This Day Forward" is one I'd notice and read the back blurb.
Thanks for the interview and the chance to win a copy of this book.

How I would buy a book is by author first then I would look at the cover and blurb. I have also read books because of word of mouth.
Good luck to everyone in the drawing. I wish I could give a book to everyone. On my website at http://www.margaretdaley.com is a list of blog I'm on this week.
I like the covers and the titles, then I'll read the back of the books, usually that is what convinces me to buy a book.
I'm a subscriber and I follow by gfc. I posted this to my blog:

Great post. I buy a book for all the reasons above. But if I really like an author I usally will buy their book regardless. We Have to help our favorite authors by supporting them. When I buy a new author to me book, usually it is the cover and the blurb. This one sounds just as great and I can hardly wait to get a hold of it myself.Good luck and good reading everyone.
Blessings,

April, I am like you. I will buy certain authors no matter what because I love their writing.
There are authors I read because I've enjoyed their books in the past. I'll also read a book that trusted blogs recommend if the story and setting sounds intriguing. And a beautiful cover certainly doesn't hurt. =) Margaret's book cover is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks for entering me!

The blurb is the most important. I have a few favorite authors whose books I will read no matter what the book is about. The cover may catch my eye enough to pick it up or click on it and read the blurb.
Thanks for the gieveaway!
chellb[dot]chellb[at]gmail[dot]com
Lisa, I love the cover too. Good luck in the drawing.
Margaret's book caught my eye immediately and then the blurb totally reeled me in hook, line, and sinker since I'm from SC! So definitely the cover and blurb for me!
dianalflowers[at]aol[dot]com
It's kinda a combination of the cover and knowing the author.I think you can look at the cover and kinda know if it's your kind of book. If I know the author is good, then I'll surely buy it.
plhouston(at)bellsouth(dot)net
The first thing for me is always the author, I tend to read authors I know and like first. Second is probably author interviews, I love hearing from them what their vision is for the book. Finally setting, love historicals.
Gail
Bookworm70 at gmail dot com
Thanks for your comments, Diana, Patsy and Gail.
Gail, I love historicals too.
First I look for favorite authors.
Then in browsing a bookstore, a
cover may catch my eye and I
read the cover blurb. At other
times, a title may cause me to
stop and look. As you can see,
nearly anything can get me to
look at a book.
jeanereads[at]sbcglobal(dot)net
I typically purchase a book based on the back cover. If I know the author, that might help, and an eye-catching front cover always helps, but ultimately it will be the back cover blurb that decides a book purchase for me. Thank you for the chance to win.

For me, it's often many of those things.
There are certain authors that I love and will buy almost any book they write.
With authors I'm unfamiliar with, it's usually the back blurb, the summary that will interest me in order to want to read the book.
Other times, it's the book cover that makes me want to pick up the book and look at the summary: "The Healer's Apprentice" by Melanie Dickerson and "The Lady of Bolton Hill" by Elizabeth Camden are two examples of books that were featured on blogs I frequent. I fell in love with the covers and the best thing is, I was not disappointed when I read them!
For "From this Day Forward", the cover looks like a historical (which I usually enjoy) and after reading the summary, I decided to enter the drawing because it sounds like something I haven't read before.
Thanks for the chance to win!

What makes you want to buy a book: author, back blurb, cover or something else?
for me it's an attractive cover that really epitomizes the anticipated content, knowledge of a writer or another's recommendation of, a desire to learn of the content of what the book offers, and often just a sense of being drawn to read this particular book.
i'm also affected by whether i'm reading for knowledge or for refreshment...
